Learning Through Play

PreSchools

Preschools provide an environment for children to gain a sense of self, explore and play with their peers to build self-confidence.
Children can learn they can make decisions and accomplish tasks without the help of their parents.

Childhood experts agree: Attending a high-quality PreSchool prepares kids for Primary and Senior school and beyond.

We follow the revised EYFS 2021 Curriculum and we promote British Values.
Personal Social & Emotional
Here at Somerville Pre-School we ensure that children are supported to manage their emotions, develop a positive sense of self, have confidence in their own abilities, to persist and wait for what they want.
Communication & Language
At Somerville Pre-School we read frequently to children, engaging them actively in stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poem, and then providing them with extensive opportunities to use and embed new words in a range of contexts.
Physical Development
At Somerville Pre-School we create games providing opportunities for play both indoors and outdoors, we support children to develop their core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness, co-ordination and agility.
Mathematics
We provide opportunities for our children to develop the necessary building blocks in mathematics. We encourage our children to learn to count confidently and develop an understanding of numbers 0 to 10 and beyond.
Literacy
At Somerville Pre-School we encourage children to develop a life-long love of reading.  Early literacy skills are rooted in children’s enjoyable experiences from birth of gesturing, talking, singing, playing, reading and writing.
Understanding The World
We at Somerville Pre-School we encourage and guide children in making sense of their physical world and their community.  We enjoy the nature found in our garden, and encourage the children’s natural curiosity.
Expressive Arts & Design
We ensure we give our children the opportunity to engage in arts and crafts, enabling them to explore and play with a range of media and materials.  We provide quality and variety in what our children see, hear and participate in.

Staff Interacting with Kids
Our Experienced Staff
Our Staff have a wealth of knowledge and experience to enable children to meet their individual aspirations. Activities are planned to allow children to take the lead in their own learning and develop their imagination, this enables children to show their energy and enthusiasm through adult and child led activities.

What About Tapestry - See Our Contact Page For Links
It's important to us that we work in partnership with our parents and share the children’s development through an online system called ‘Tapestry’. Parents can view their child’s learning journey through observations, photographs and report’s, which are created by their key person.  Parents also have an opportunity to share activities and adventures by uploading photographs and comments to their child’s milestone’s which allows all to track the child’s progress clearly.
